An Alabama Crimson Tide first: Mark Ingram wins the 75th Heisman Trophy
Now, Ingram has a trophy to show them. He became the first player in Alabama’s storied football history to capture college football’s most prestigious award on Saturday.
“I’m excited to be Alabama’s first Heisman winner,” Ingram said.
In the closest voting between the top two finishers, Ingram edged Stanford running back Toby Gerhart by 28 points.
Ingram finished with 227 first-place votes and 1,304 total points. Gerhart finished with 222 and 1,276.
The Big 12 produced the next two finishers. Texas’ Colt McCoy, last year’s runner-up, finished a close third with 203 first-place votes and 1,145 points. Nebraska tackle Ndamukong Suh, bidding to become the first defensive lineman to win the Heisman, finished fourth with 815 points. Continue reading

Nebraska Star Ndamukong Suh Keeps His Head in the Game, but His Heart Is in Africa
As the number 21 Nebraska Cornhuskers (9-3) prepares to play the No. 3 ranked Texas Longhorns (12-0) for the Big 12 title Saturday night in Arlington, Tex., Suh is even being mentioned as a contender for the Heisman Trophy and possibly the first pick at the N.F.L. draft in April.
Suh, a redshirt senior, was named the Big 12 defensive player of the year this week. He is tied for the team lead in tackles (70) and pass breakups (10), and leads the Cornhuskers in blocked kicks (3). He also has 7.5 sacks and leads the team with 22 quarterback hurries. Continue reading
