Notre Dame Fighting Irish fire Charlie Weis after Five years, begin search for New Coach
As reported on Breaking News here yesterday…………Two days after Notre Dame’s loss to Stanford ended its regular season at 6-6, the school confirmed Charlie Weis would not return as coach.
“We have great expectations for our football program, and we have not been able to meet those expectations,” athletic director Jack Swarbrick said. “As an alumnus, Charlie understands those goals and expectations better than most, and he’s as disappointed as anyone that we have not achieved the desired results.”
Swarbrick has announced that Rob Ianello, the team’s assistant head coach/offense, wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator, will take the helm for football operations until a new coach is hired.

With a Week to Go at the Downtown Athletic Club, the Heisman Trophy Is Up for Grabs
The most storied award in College football is the Heisman Trophy. The Downtown Athletic Club has finally embraced the digital age, and just in the nick of time, as this year the Heisman voting will be completely done electronically; the 925 voters are required to cast their ballots online by 5 p.m. Dec. 7.
These are the four candidates we believe are in the running: Colt McCoy, Texas Longhorns, Tim Tebow, Florida Gators, Toby Gerhart, Stanford Cardinals and the Alabama Crimson Tides Mark Ingram.

Florida Vs. Florida State: Tim Tebow Shines On Senior Day, Gators Hammer FSU 37-10
Tim Tebow’s eye black is waterproof.
His perfect season is starting to look shatterproof.
Tebow accounted for five touchdowns in his home finale, a triumphant farewell that included tears on the field and in the stands, and top-ranked Florida thumped rival Florida State 37-10 Saturday for its sixth consecutive victory in the series.
The day was a fitting farewell to the man that many see as the greatest college football athlete ever.
Florida is greatness. Maybe Florida hasn’t always been greatness this season, but they were this Saturday in November. Maybe the Gators needed a break here, an officiating miscue there, to stay undefeated and ranked No. 1 in the country, and they got those breaks and miscues. And finally on Saturday, the Gators delivered greatness.

Your request is being processed… Oklahoma Vs. Oklahoma State: Sooners Keep Cowboys Out Of BCS
Oklahoma State (No. 12 BCS, No. 11 AP) had everything to play for: the big BCS Bowl money and exposure of the Bowl Championship Series, another step toward making school history and bragging rights in a rare chance to outshine its traditional in-state rival.
Then Oklahoma showed up Saturday and snatched all that away in making OSU look anything but BCS-worthy. Continue reading
Tennessee Vols beat Kentucky Wildcats again 30-24 in OT
Big Blue Nation was all dressed up for a party, not the party to end all parties, but the party to end Kentucky’s embarrassing domination at the hands of Tennessee.
And for 30 minutes last night at Commonwealth Stadium, it looked for all the world that the UK band would play, the balloons would drop and the Cats could celebrate long into the November night.
Then the second half began.
And the clock struck orange.
By the end, the proceedings all had that familiar sense of doom, a feeling confirmed when the Volunteers’ Montario Hardesty ripped 20 yards through an ominous opening in the home defense for the winning touchdown and a 30-24 victory.
Tennessee’s 25th straight triumph over Kentucky.
A quarter-century.
There’s no longer consecutive series streak in college football, and certainly not one more painful.

Wild End to Notre Dame Fighting Irish Head Coach Charlie Weis’s Likely Finale With Stanford Cardinals 45-38 victory
NFL source tells us that Weis already has cleaned out his office, in anticipation of being fired when the team returns to Indiana after the conclusion of Saturday’s game.
“No comment,” Swarbrick said after the game. “Have a great night.” His silence a stunning indictment of the situation Weis now finds himself in.
In a wild game with the teams marching up and down the field all night, Stanford tailback Toby Gerhart scored the winning touchdown on a 4-yard run with 59 seconds left to cap a Heisman Trophy-worthy performance and give the Cardinals a 45-38 victory in front of a capacity crowd of 50,510.

West Virginia Mountaineers 19, Pittsburgh Panthers 16 on last second Field Goal
Tyler Bitancurt made a 43-yard field goal as time was expiring Friday night, giving the West Virginia Mountaineers some revenge in the 19-16 win over the Number Nine Ranked Pittsburgh Panthers.
It was the fourth field goal of the game for Bitancurt, who also had kicks of 53 yards in the second period, 42 yards in the third and 39 yards early in the fourth for a 16-6 lead
The Panthers came back from a 10-point deficit in the fourth quarter to tie it on a 50-yard pass from Bill Stull to Jonathan Baldwin with 2:54 remaining in the game The Mountaineers then drove 42 yards in nine plays to kick the winning field goal.
.
West Virginia has now improved to 8-3 with a closing regular-season game yet to play against Rutgers. The Mountaineers are 4-2 in the Big East Conference and not a factor in the Big East Race.
The Panthers lost for only the second time in 11 games this season and despite the setback, will have a chance to share the Big East title next week with a victory over fifth-ranked Cincinnati, who eked out a victory over Illinois last night.
The only previous Pittsburgh Panthers loss this year came at North Carolina State on Sept. 26.

Tony Pikes Return Helps the 5th Ranked Cincinnati Bearcats Stop Illinois Fighting Illini and Stay Undefeated
Tony Pike, a senior quarterback, returned from an injury to his non throwing arm and had a record day Friday, answering all the questions about his health. He passed for six touchdowns in a 49-36 victory and led his team to victory over the visiting Illinois Fighting Illini (3-8) that kept fifth-ranked Cincinnati unbeaten.
Pike was quoted as saying “Words can’t describe how amazing this feels,”
Cincinnati (11-0) remained one of six unbeaten Football Bowl Subdivision teams and is ranked fifth in the Bowl Championship Series standings. The Bearcats finish their regular season next weekend in Pittsburgh, playing for their second straight Big East championship.
The Cincinnati Bearcats were a more balanced team when the sophomore backup Quarterback Zach Collaros played and ran the offense in Pike’s absence. The Bearcats abandoned any part of the run Friday, handing off only four times in the first three quarters.
Pike finished 32 of 46 for 399 yards.

Tennessee Vols vs. the Kentucky Wildcats: Will 24 Years of Heartbreak End?
Facts;
1. It is the longest active annual winning streak in college football, two dozen years of futility for the Kentucky football Program.
2. The Last time Kentucky beat the Vols, the final score was 17-12 in Knoxville in 1984
3. Kentucky has broken and set a few streaks over the past few years, including last weeks Victory over the Georgia Bulldogs, Four straight bowls(counting this years certain invite) and Three straight bowl victories in a row. A feat not accomplished since Bear Bryant was sharing the campus with Adolph Rupp.
4. The futility against Kentucky’s neighbors down the road on I 75 has still not come to an end, some think this may be there best shot in years, but many do not.
With an Outback or Cotton Bowl Bid on the line for Kentucky, the Tennessee Volunteers roll into Commonwealth stadium at 7 p.m.tonight televised on ESPNU. Saturday night’s Tennessee-Kentucky game is shaping up as one of the biggest to hit Commonwealth Stadium in years.
At stake is second place in the Southeastern Conference Eastern Division, a probable trip to a New Year’s Day bowl, and, oh, yeah, that 24-game UT winning streak over UK. Continue reading
B.C.S. Just Ho-Hums Along this College Football Season
With Texas looking shaky in giving up 39 points to Texas A&M on Thursday night and Alabama looking mortal in a come-from-behind victory at Auburn on Friday, two thirds of college football’s so-called Big Three were threatened in a 24-hour span.
But those uninspired performances will do little to change this most predictable of college football seasons. Nothing short of a stunning upset — a Florida State victory over No. 1 Florida on Saturday or a Nebraska win over Texas in the Big 12 title game next weekend — will allow an outsider to crash the Bowl Championship Series title game. The U.S.C. Trojans vs. the UCLA Bruins is one of the most fierce and heated rivalries in all of College Football. When the teams, whose campuses are but 12 miles apart and both in LA, hit the field tonight, Coach Pete Carroll Trojans and UCLA Bruin Head Coach Rick Neuheisel will not only be splitting a city in half, they divide many households in the City one way or another. The USC vs UCLA game divides like no other game in college sports today Continue reading
Alabama Crimson Tide 26, Auburn Tigers 21 in a very close Iron Bowl
The Number 2 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide pulled out a hard fought victory against the Auburn Tigers 26-21 in an oh so close Iron Bowl rivalry.
Alabama struggled offensively in one of the fiercest rivalries in all of College Football for most of the game. The turning point came when Greg McElroy drove his Crimson Tide offense down the field 79 yards in 15 plays leaving 1:43 to play in the hard fought contest; it was Bama’s first lead of the game.
Alabama was held to 207 yards in the first three quarters before the game winning drive sealed the deal for them, thank in part to some very poor clock management by the Auburn tigers in the final minute of the game. When the Tide needed hi most, Julio Jones came through with came four clutch catches.
This makes the second season in a row that the Alabama Crimson Tide has finished the regular season with an unbeaten record. They now play Florida in the SEC Championship Game next Saturday to punch their ticket to the BCS Championship game

A Coaching Tree’s Fruits Could Spoil, Charlie Weiss Head Cach of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish Fooled Notre Dame, but not opposing Coaches
Charlie Weis adds an interesting twist to the old saying “you can fool all of the people some of the time and some of the people all of the time, but you cannot fool all of the people all of the time.”
As Head Football Coach Notre Dame since 2004, Weis fooled a lot of people for a long time on the South Bend campus. However, opposing coaches were never fooled by Cholly or his pedigree from the New England Patriots. Who did he fool you ask… Notre Dame Boosters and Administrators it is now painfully apparent. Perhaps they got caught up in Weis’s being a guy’s guy, better than Ty Willingham, his predecessor, at glad-handing, telling jokes and firing off snappy one-liners. Perhaps better, too, at recruiting. But as we all know now, the end is most likely in sight on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish Campus.
A better salesman does not make a better coach.
When he first arrived at Notre Dame, Weis boasted to star struck players that they would have a “schematic advantage” over their opponents because of his advanced knowledge of the pro-style offense. Weis was the offensive coordinator of the New England Patriots and they won three Super Bowl championships. One problem with that, as the failings of other Bill Belichick assistants continue to pile up, it is obvious to the most casual observer he is and was the brains behind the Patriots success.

Number Three Ranked Texas Longhorns Slip by Texas A&M Aggies, But Questions about deserving the BCS Title Game may be Louder
The weakened Big 12 has been more of a walk through the park, than a challenge for Texas this season.
Since they beat Oklahoma last month, the third-ranked Longhorns have hardly been tested in conference play in their march to the Bowl Championship Series title game on Jan. 7.
Texas was expected to romp Thursday night against Texas A&M, questions about whether it deserves to play in the B.C.S. championship game may be as loud as they have been all season after the Longhorns escaped with a wild 49-39 win in front of 84,671 fans at Kyle Field.
